“We will talk about it with the FIA”– Charles Leclerc has strongly opposed the idea of salary caps in Formula 1 under new regulations.

FIA has recently brought the budget caps in the picture to avoid the spending disparity between the teams and considering the financial losses that happened to teams amidst the lockdown enforced by the pandemic.

Recently, including salary caps for the race drivers was being discussed heavily, and Alpha Tauri boss Franz Tost appeared to be the biggest supporter of it.

But obviously, this wouldn’t go well with the Formula 1 drivers, and Charles Leclerc has added himself to the names who are against the caps being imposed on the drivers’ pockets.

“I don’t agree with the salary cap. We will talk about it with the FIA and with the people who are here to make those decisions”, the Monegasque told Sky Italia.

There is no doubt that Leclerc would be against the idea of enforcing a cap on drivers’ salaries, as he himself earns around Є12 million and would eventually earn more with the Maranello based team if he continues to rise.

Apart from Leclerc, Hamilton has also strongly opposed the idea of the drivers’ salary cap and tried to interject with points he thinks are valid.

Sprint races are a good idea.

While the financial limitation is a problem for Leclerc, Monegasque believes that the idea of sprint races can improve F1 and thinks that it could be interesting.

“As far as sprint races are concerned, I think they are a good idea. It would be fun to try them, to see if they work or not. For me the most important thing is to keep the importance of the Sunday race.”

“With the sprint race the race on Sunday doesn’t lose any value, and we also have an extra chance to race.”
