“Hamilton better than Schumacher? I think so"- Rubens Barrichello gives verdict on prolonged debate

“Hamilton better than Schumacher? I think so”- Rubens Barrichello gives a surprising verdict on Lewis Hamilton vs Michael Schumacher debate.

Rubens Barrichello who drove with Michael Schumacher for five years with most numbers of years in his prime has a rather surprising judgement on Lewis Hamilton vs Schumacher debate.

Though, at the same time it is understandable, as in January, he said that he finds Hamilton more talented than Schumacher, who has been out of public appearance since 2013.

In an interaction with Soymotor that Hamilton is better than the German driver, with whom he had a decisive partnership in the early years of this millennium.

“Hamilton better than Schumacher? I think so, I competed with both but was only there in the early years of Hamilton, but I think so,” he said.

Though there is nothing wrong in declaring Hamilton better than Schumacher at this point of time, it is peculiar from a person who had such a clear answer against whom he worked so closely.

The duo caused the cancellation of team orders

In 2002 Barrichello was riding high on success but a controversy during the Austrian Grand Prix forced FIA to cancel team orders from thereon.

Barrichello was on the verge of getting the first position in the Austrian Grand Prix, but a late team order told the Brazilian to let Schumacher overtake him to take the first position, which Barrichello strangely accepted making an awkward spectacle.

During the award ceremony, Schumacher further aired the fire by offering him his place on the podium and swapped the trophies.  The drivers were fined for disrupting podium protocol and also decreed the ban mentioned above.

Till this date, this incident marks an embarrassing moment for Ferrari, as unrequited team order went against the spirit of the game. Though throughout the five years both drivers had a cordial relationship.

However, it cannot be forgotten that last year Barrichello said on Beyond  The Grid podcast that Schumacher was never a “supportive” teammate throughout his time in Ferrari.
