Anthony Davis throws down gauntlet to Lakers’ title rivals: “We can win the championship no matter what seed we fall to”
Lakers forward Anthony Davis believes that the team is capable of winning the championships irrespective of the seed they fall to.
The Los Angeles Lakers were looked like one of the strong contenders for the championship at the start of the season. Despite all the acquisitions, the Lakers still have quite a few integral players of their championship season last year.
However, injuries have gotten the best of the defending champions this year. The team once considered to be the favorites to win their second consecutive title has now slid down in the rankings, over the course of the season.
With LBJ and Anthony Davis missing 16 and 25 games respectively, the team did take a toll without their superstars on the court, resulting in their underwhelming performance.
“No team wants to play against us in the first round”: Anthony Davis
Despite the fact that they are 5th in the West at the moment, Lakers forward Davis still believes that it is their championship to lose. During an interview, AD spoke about how no team would want to face the LA Lakers in the first round of the playoffs itself. Rightfully, no team should take a LeBron James-led Lakers lightly. Davis said:
“No matter where we fall, we’re capable of still winning the championship. Injury played a part for us this season. We always say, it just makes a lot sweeter at the end to go through something like this.”
“So, put us up against anyone, I don’t think no one wants to see us (Lakers) first round. Like I said, I know the type of team we have. I know what we can do. I think we’re capable of beating anyone in a seven-game series.”
While The Brow marked his return with a 17-point game against the Mavericks on Saturday night, Bron still has some time before stepping on the hardwood.
With a 35-25 record, LAL is currently 4 games behind the 4th seed Denver Nuggets. However, being only 1.5 games ahead of the 6th seed and 3 games ahead of the 7th seed, the reigning champions could potentially find themselves playing in the play-in tournament. Until James’ return to the court, Davis has to be leading the team to finish out the season strong.
