“Put some gravel there” – Christian Horner has a solution for the track limits issue plaguing Max Verstappen
“Put some gravel there” – Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has come up with a practical solution for the track limits issue plaguing Max Verstappen.
Max Verstappen missed out on the bonus point for the fastest lap yesterday in Portimao after he breached the track limits at Turn 14 in the final lap. When informed on team radio, he sounded surprised, suggesting he wasn’t aware of the limits on that turn.
In the post race interview Verstappen said of being pinged for track limits “That’s a bit odd because they were not checking track limits in 14”

But former driver and Sky F1 pundit Karun Chandhok is having none of it, insisting the Dutchman should be made aware of the regulations imposed on the races.
“It was a slam dunk for the stewards. It was unfortunate for Max that he did not realize that they changed the track limit rules there from Friday to Saturday, but that’s part of his job.
“He needs to know these rules, he needs to know that the stewards are looking at track limits there and that has cost him a Championship point.”
Horner suggests gravel as penalty
Verstappen’s boss Christian Horner was not pleased with the lap not being considered for the fastest lap. On Saturday, Verstappen missed out on pole position due to another breach of track limits. Horner has had enough of it and has advised FIA to re-look into the matter.
“At the moment it’s okay to do it in some places and not in others and it’s confusing for us. So I’m sure it is for the viewers [as well] trying to explain if something is okay or not. We just need to come up with a simple system.
“Put some gravel there. Then there will be a physical penalty if a car goes off track.”
