IPL 2021 suspended: BCCI suspends Indian Premier League 2021 due to COVID-19
IPL 2021 suspended: The biggest T20 competition has been suspended indefinitely after several players have tested positive for COVID-19.
BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) have finally suspended the ongoing 14th season of the Indian Premier League after not only players but support staff are also testing positive for COVID-19 since yesterday.
It is worth mentioning that Kolkata Knight Riders bowling pair of Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier were the first ones to be have contacted the virus in Ahmedabad.
While an update regarding three Chennai Super Kings’ non-playing staff had also come yesterday, the news of Sunrisers Hyderabad wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Delhi Capitals spinner Amit Mishra also contacting the virus came this morning.
With cases being reported in both Ahmedabad and Delhi, it is only wise to suspend the tournament for now to ensure optimal health of all stakeholders.
IPL 2021 suspended
Chennai Super Kings, who were scheduled to face Rajasthan Royals in Delhi tomorrow, had announced the postponement of the match after their players self-isolated themselves for a week.
Having said that, expect the cash-rich league to be suspended for at least a week. With reports emerging that the rest of the season could be conducted in Mumbai itself, it remains to be seen as to whether BCCI will continue with the multi-venue format or not.
After Ahmedabad and Delhi, the proceedings were slated to shift to Kolkata and Bengaluru as per the original plan. The playoffs, however, were scheduled to be once again played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Twitter reactions on IPL 2021 getting suspended
IPL suspended for the time being. Will shift to Mumbai — pending clearance — and will resume after a week’s break.

The situation became untenable once players and contingent from at least four teams turned up positive results. It won’t be surprising if people from more teams return position results too. #IPL2021 https://t.co/XdELgVKSWi

Suspended indef. more in a while. I was live with @VenkyMysore when we broke this and he got the news from the @BCCI details not yet given. With all teams having cases a reset was inevitable.

IPL suspended after a few more players test positive. The optics of a sports mega event going on while the country battles COVID 2.0 were never going to work. Will the grand Central vista project in the heart of the national capital be next?
