Jim Ross says Vince McMahon didn’t want Randy Orton to sign with WWE. The Viper has since become an iconic legend of the business.

Randy Orton is one of the most popular wrestler in the world today. His mannerisms, accomplishments, finishing move are all very well known even outside the world of wrestling. However, all this would not have been had Jim Ross not gone against Vince McMahon’s wishes and hire him.

The WWE Chairman did not want the Viper to be a part of his promotion and adviced JR against bringing him in. Luckily for Orton and the WWE Universe, the legendary commentatot managed to convince Vince to have a change of heart.

“You think he met Brock Lesnar before I signed him? No. John Cena? No. He didn’t want me to hire Randy Orton, but I did because I said, ‘Vince, did you get sent to military school? Did you get a second chance?’ I said that this kid deserves a second chance. He’s got too much upside potential for us to relegate him to some other company.

JR explained that Vince probably didn’t want to sign him because of Orton’s dishonorable discharge from the Marines in 1999.

“I think it was about his dishonorable discharge from the Marines. Without knowing the story, why it happened, it happened. There are always two sides to every story. That’s kind of what I believe. And of course, me steering that course, it lengthened Randy’s career and he’s been a good investment for that company.”
