“I can be half-confident, half-nervous”– Lando Norris on upcoming race in Baku
“I can be half-confident, half-nervous”– Lando Norris on the upcoming race in Baku, as he talks about his favourite tracks on the calendar.
Lando Norris is having an incredible campaign with McLaren in 2021, which includes two podiums in five races. The next race is going to be in Baku the following weekend.
And Norris is having mixed feelings about the venue; though he has listed a few circuits where he is expecting amazing results, Baku is not one of them.
“I’m confident for certain tracks because of this result, places like Singapore, for example,” Norris told Motorsport Magazine. “Tracks that are more like Barcelona, I’m a bit more nervous about.
“Baku I guess I can be half-confident, half-nervous. Mixed feelings, but I’m confident we’re doing a good job, but we just need to keep it up and keep improving.”
The Spanish GP scare
Norris claims that he didn’t have a good weekend during the Spanish Grand Prix, where he finished P8, and now he doesn’t feel confident about similar tracks.
“I think Barcelona was the only, not worry, but I guess we can’t be super confident with everywhere we go,” the 21-year-old explained. “It was just a different story, we set up the car very differently.”
“We didn’t know what the car was going to be like, just because it’s the slower speed we thought we’d struggle a bit more – and in Barcelona, we struggled in the slower speeds.”
“We have to just kind of understand it, why when we ran the set-up we have in Barcelona that doesn’t work as well, but why it worked very well here [in Monaco]. We’re not there yet, we’ve still got a lot of work to do.”
As of now, Norris is the only hope for McLaren to cling upon their P3 finish hopes in the constructors’ table, as Daniel Ricciardo is yet to settle with his new team.
