“We travel to another street circuit, Baku” – Sebastian Vettel confident of continuing Aston Martin form in Azerbaijan

“We travel to another street circuit, Baku” – Sebastian Vettel returned to form in the Monaco Grand Prix and is eager to maintain that momentum for Aston Martin in the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix at Baku.

Aston Martin had flattered to deceive in their F1 comeback this season, until the Monaco Grand Prix. A double-points finish with Sebastian Vettel in the Top 5 meant the team from Britain moved to the Top 5 themselves in the Constructors Standings, closely followed by Alpine and AlphaTauri.

Vettel had struggled with Ferrari in his last season there, and there is genuine optimism he will get back to his best with Aston Martin. Going by his performance in the Principality, it won’t be a surprise if he delivers for the Royal Greens in another street circuit, Baku, this weekend.

“From Monaco, we travel to another street circuit, Baku – but it’s a very different challenge.

“You can overtake in Baku, and tyre degradation is much more of a factor, so, while Saturday remains important, finding a good balance for the technical sectors and the high-speed sections, while performing a strong race strategy, will be key to a good result.

“We’re coming here off the back of a good weekend in Monaco, and we want to maintain our momentum.”

Lance Stroll scored his first F1 podium in Baku

The Baku circuit is pretty special for Vettel’s teammate Lance Stroll, as he scored his first podium there in 2017. He did it in his rookie season and remains the youngest rookie to achieve a podium.

“Baku is a place of special memories for me, it’s here that I scored my maiden podium in Formula 1.

“It’s a complex circuit as it combines flat-out sections with tight corners in the middle sector, making the margin for error minuscule. We are continually progressing with our AMR21 and intend on building on our momentum from Monaco.”
