“His first win with Red Bull” – Lando Norris expected Sergio Perez to overtake him in F1 drivers’ standings
“His first win with Red Bull” – McLaren star Lando Norris expected Sergio Perez to eventually move to P3 in the drivers’ standings.
Sergio Perez had a brilliant outing in Baku, winning the race in thrilling fashion, his first for Red Bull. The race saw both championship contenders Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen return from Azerbaijan without a point.
This allowed Perez to take the full 25 points, and move above Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings. Norris has had a standout season so far, making it to the podium twice. But he is not surprised at all Perez has climbed to P3 overall, considering how quick Red Bull is.
“It’s about time he overtook me so congrats to him, his first win with Red Bull. They’re a lot quicker, so it’s expected. I’m not disappointed I lost P3 in the Championship, but I was happy with the weekend from my side.
“A few mistakes from my side on Saturday and a couple in the race, but apart from that a good job.”

Lando Norris enjoyed Baku finale
The McLaren star enjoyed the final two laps of the Azerbaijan GP, echoing his idol Fernando Alonso’s feelings. It benefitted him as Hamilton went off the track, and he managed to successfully overtake Yuki Tsunoda of AlphaTauri.
“It feels quite different to a normal start because you have a lot more grip with the soft tyres and very low fuel, so you can be quite a bit more attacking.
“It’s a bit more enjoyable in that way and we gained two positions with Hamilton going straight on and getting past [Yuki] Tsunoda.”
