“LeBron James is not Michael Jordan”: NBA analyst fuels ‘GOAT’ debate as claims he doesn’t ‘give a damn’ about the Lakers MVP’s Space Jam 2
NBA analyst Bomani Jones claims that Space Jam 2 will be disappointing as LeBron James will not be able to what Michael Jordan did.
Debates on whether LeBron James has passed Michael Jordan in the ‘GOAT’ debate have been more prevalent than ever. With the former having won his 4th title towards the latter end of last year, fans claimed the Lakers superstar has officially climbed ‘Mount Jordan’ and claimed his spot in the uppermost echelon of NBA history as the ‘GOAT’.
However, after a disappointing first round exit to the Phoenix Suns in these 2021 Playoffs, the tide has shifted back to Michael Jordan being the greatest to ever lace up. The fact that the two NBA behemoths are also now officially the only two athletes to ever team up with Bugs Bunny on the big screen also brings about the debate on who’s movie was better.
It’s unfortunate yet quite comical that fans and perhaps even analysts alike may use LeBron James’s Space Jam 2 success as an indicator towards who the ‘GOAT’ really is. NBA analyst Bomani Jones strays away from this topic but also, compares the two, point blank.
Bomani Jones claims Space Jam 2 will be disappointing as LeBron James is not Michael Jordan.
Space Jam is a borderline cult classic in terms of sports movies. Quite nearly every single basketball fan has watched Michael Jordan’s wacky Looney Tunes adventure at least once in their lifetime. Bomani Jones on the other hand, simply does not care about this new, revamped version of LeBron James in Space Jam 2.
“Do you give a damn about this movie? I never felt like Space Jam was some kind of classic in the first place. I did not recall people having this love and Space Jam affection that seems to be coming through in all this. LeBron James is not Michael Jordan. He is setting himself up for disappointment.”
Space Jam is one of, many basketball movies that are classics now. Coach Carter, Love and Basketball, He Got Game, and more are all movies that not only captured the essence of what playing basketball was like, but did so in a way that translated seamlessly to the silver screen.
It’ll be interesting to see if LeBron James in his newest endeavor will have a similar effect on kids and adults now, as the original Space Jam did back in 1996.
