“Shaq, can I borrow your plane tonight?”: Charles Barkley roasts Sixers after demoralizing home defeat in Game 5 vs Atlanta Hawks as Ben Simmons gets Hack-a-Shaq treatment
Charles Barkley was in no gaming mood after the Sixers lost to the Hawks at home today. He jokingly asked Shaq for his plane to go to Philly.
The Philadelphia 76ers find themselves down 3-2 with a road game up next, and they only have themselves to blame. They held a 25-point lead at one point in the 3rd quarter of last night’s game, but they gave it all up midway through the 4th.
Trae Young was immense for the Hawks again with 39 points, but the comeback was catalyzed by Lou Williams. Sweet Lou was on a tear in the 4th quarter, halving the deficit ahead of the period and bringing them back in the game.
Chuck had broken out his GUARANTEE button in anticipation of a Sixers win tonight. And it did look like we’d go that way. But with Joel Embiid missing a pair of free throws down 3 with 10 seconds remaining, all their hopes of a comeback flickered out.
Charles Barkley roasts Joel Embiid and his Sixers star after epic meltdown
Charles Barkley didn’t hold back this time around in his indictment of the Sixers. This was their second straight game blowing a virtually unassailable lead while going into the 4th quarter.
“This was a complete choke job. You don’t build a 26-point lead and then blow it in a must-win game.”
“First of all, they gave up 40 points in the 4th quarter. You should’ve been mad from last game when they gave up an 18-point lead. You come home, you play fantastic, you get up 26 points.”
“But the problem Ernie is, they brag about how good they are defensively. ‘Well I should be Defensive Player of the Year.’ You gave up 40 points in the 4th quarter at home in a playoff game. They just choked that away.”
“I can get up here and say Lou Williams was fantastic and Gallinari was fantastic and they got them back in the game. Then Trae Young finished it off.”
“I really wanna fly to Philly and listen to the radio tomorrow. Shaq, can I borrow your plane? And let me tell you something. They deserve to get roasted.”
