“Jason Kidd to return to Dallas Mavericks?”: Lakers assistant coach being interviewed by Mark Cuban to possibly coach Luka Doncic and co
Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks are moving on fast from Rick Carlisle to their next head coach, with Jason Kidd in consideration.
Luka Doncic has been one of the revelations of the NBA ever since he made his debut as a rookie 3 years back. The Slovenian has been playing out of his mind over the past 2 seasons.
People have been trying to nitpick his minimal flaws all this time, but they haven’t been too successful. Luka has a feel for the game that seems to be unmatched among youngsters today. He’s definitely been through the grind with Real Madrid, and it shows in his decision-making.
Luka is truly on a trajectory so good that with a couple of NBA championships, he could be considered a top-10 player of all time. Given these circumstances, it is imperative that the Dallas Mavericks surround him with a winning environment.
Does appointing Jason Kidd to a coaching role help in that regard? Anyone who’s been a fan of the NBA from 8 seasons ago would find it really tough to find too much upside in this move.
Will Jason Kidd become the Dallas Mavericks’ next head coach?
Jason Kidd is one of the names that Mark Cuban and the Mavericks are apparently considering for their head coaching role. The match seems to be good on paper.
Kidd has worked with NBA superstars in his previous head coaching jobs. He would have the support of an owner who is clearly invested in his team. Kidd would also be welcomed back into the fold as a champion with the team and his work before that.
The Mavericks have opened contract negotiations with Jason Kidd to be their next coach, league sources say, with support from their leading (but not yet identified) top candidate for head of basketball operations.

This is hardly the only job where the Kidd connection has come up in the head coaching talks. Damian Lillard made it known to Blazers’ management that he wanted to play under Kidd or Chauncey Billups as his head coach.
Kidd came out to officially withdraw his candidature from this job quite soon after this fact. But the fact remains that he’s a 2-time head coach and is likely to want to be back in that role.
