“We then also reduced the pace a bit”– Red bull is still faster than Mercedes without full power
“We then also reduced the pace a bit”– Red bull is still faster than Mercedes even without the full pace as revealed by Helmut Marko.
Red Bull has come out to perform better than Mercedes in the past five races, and it seems that the momentum might stay with them and lead them to the championship victory.
The recent comments by Helmut Marko are not encouraging for Mercedes, as he revealed while praising Max Verstappen that Red Bull is not using its full power yet are ahead of Mercedes.
“I think that was the highlight of these last three races. This GP was even clearer than the two before. Max drove quite confidently in front,” said Marko.
“We then also reduced the pace a bit. We are now going to Silverstone with incredible confidence. There is no track we have to be afraid of. But still, we know how strong Mercedes is in general and we are prepared for more close battles.”
Though he mentions the close battles, he clearly speaks about Red Bull not using its full potential across all the parts of the races, while Mercedes pushes to reach near them.
“We didn’t drive with full power at times, Hamilton did in certain phases. They try and still can’t get close to us. A reassuring situation for us.” said Marko.
Lewis Hamilton confirms the claim
Meanwhile, the seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton backed Marko’s words, by claiming that he had to drive so much at the limit that he had to take underbody damage.
“I had massive damage,” confirmed the seven-time world champion. “I’m glad I was able to finish the race at all. If you look at Max, he had an 18-second lead with two stops.”
“They have incredible performance and we have a lot of work to do to close that gap. It’s been quite a painful race but we’re keeping our heads up and trying to do our best.”
