"It’s not going to close the gap enough"– Lewis Hamilton on Mercedes' upgrades for Silverstone

“It’s not going to close the gap enough”– Lewis Hamilton on Mercedes’ upgrades for Silverstone with an intention to defeat Red Bull.

Red Bull is flying high at the top of the table, as its five successive wins have allowed them to have a gap of 44 points against Mercedes on the table.

Seeing these unknown failures, Mercedes have decided to bring on the updates, for which earlier they were a bit reluctant considering, the 2022 project is more complex, and it needs resources.

But, now the des=cision is made, and new upgrades are coming in for the race in Silverstone, but Lewis Hamilton is not convinced that it would allow them to beat Red Bull.

“We have a little bit coming, but it’s not going to close the gap enough,” he said. “We’ve got to do some work.” Hamilton is himself losing in the drivers’ championship, with the recent win by Max  Verstappen takes him at a 32-point lead.

Austria benefitted Red Bull

Hamilton admits Verstappen is performing exceptionally, but he was the first one to claim that Red bull is going to be a better side in Austria, which came out to be true.

“These past races have been difficult, and obviously he’s pretty much just cruising ahead,” added Hamilton. “So, there’s not really much I can do about it.”

“Of course, I’m praying for a different scenario in the next race, but if you look at their car, it’s just on rails. So we’re giving it absolutely everything.”

“These past two weeks I’ve been to the factory, each week trying to extract as much as I can from the car. But our car just doesn’t go well here [in Austria] for some reason. I really hope that it does at these next ones,” he concluded.

The next race in Hamilton’s home race, and he has been a tough opposition to beat at Silverstone, so it would be a race to look forward to.
