“I think Daniel”– Max Verstappen answers to his best ever teammate in Red Bull
“I think Daniel”– Max Verstappen lays a comparison between all his previous teammates in Red Bull and Sergio Perez; he adores Daniel Ricciardo.
Daniel Ricciardo‘s exit from Red Bull was a major hit to Red Bull, as they evidently struggled to get a suitable candidate to pair with Max Verstappen until they recently zeroed on Sergio Perez, who is giving impactful performances with the team.
But for Verstappen, Ricciardo was his best teammate when asked if Perez is the complete teammate he ever had in Red Bull, to which Verstappen was unsure but took a side with the Australian.
“I don’t know,” Verstappen told Sky Sport. “I think Daniel [Ricciardo], he was outstanding. Of course, back then, I was a bit younger and a bit more inexperienced, so it’s difficult to compare the two.
“I find it very difficult to always talk about that because I had a great relationship with Pierre [Gasly], I had a great relationship with Alex [Albon]. They were great drivers as well.
“I have a good relationship with Checo and it’s going really well. We are leading the Constructors’ [Championship] and I hope we can keep that up.”
Happy for Pierre Gasly
Gasly could never stand up to the expectations of Red Bull and was demoted back to Toro Rosso (now Alpha Tauri) only after 12 starts with Red Bull. Still, the Frenchmen had his revenge in the following years, as he has won three podiums, including a win with Alpha Tauri to certify his merit.
“He feels really good in the AlphaTauri car and it’s great to see him qualifying in fifth, sixth and getting good results,” Verstappen added. “Even the win last year. I’m very happy for him.”
It may be Gasly’s last few days with Red Bull, as on Thursday, he affirmed interest from other teams for him.
