“We have our suspicions”– Red Bull demands clarification from FIA over Mercedes’ car
“We have our suspicions”– Red Bull demands clarification over Mercedes’ front wings that allegedly are violating the rules.
Last month, Mercedes targetted Red Bull for its ‘bendy’ rear-wings, and in return, the Milton-Keynes-based team raised questions about the front-wings of Mercedes, which apparently were showing excessive flexibility.
Helmut Marko has now further emphasised Red Bull’s doubts over Mercedes functioning within FIA’s rules; meanwhile also accused Mercedes of plotting attacks on them to stop his team.
“It’s a list of multiple technical accusations that have all led to nothing,” the Austrian explained in a conversation with Sport1. “If that’s Mercedes’ style, we can live with that as long as it doesn’t get personal.”
“It’s all games and at the moment Toto (Wolff) is a bit more focused on Christian (Horner). We have our suspicions and our images show how much the front wing moves. We are still waiting for an answer from the FIA. We expect clarity.”
Surprised with Mercedes’ silence
Marko then attacks Mercedes by displaying his surprise over the lack of response from Mercedes over the alleged front-wing violations. At the same time, according to him, Red Bull promptly clarifies every doubt raised on them.
“When something comes from Mercedes, we react to it enormously quickly. Rear wing, engine, tyre pressure – everything has already been called into question”, Marko concludes.
F1 is amidst the fiercest battle between Mercedes and Red Bull for the first time in the turbo-hybrid era, and Mercedes trailing with 44-points is also a rare sight. Thus, Mercedes is using every trick in its pocket to level against Red Bull.
It even decided to call for upgrades for the race in Silverstone, a contradiction to its earlier decision of not developing the 2021 car to focus on the 2022 project. Now, it remains to be seen where this fight goes in the next 14 races.
