“Michael Jordan’s hands are like a cheat code”: Jamal Crawford narrates how the 6-time champion played pickup ball competitively even in his Wizards tenure
Jamal Crawford recently detailed his experience of playing pickup basketball with Michael Jordan on the Knuckleheads podcast.
Crawford is one of the foremost microwave scorers in NBA history. He’s a 3-time winner of the Sixth Man of the year award and is the prototypical iso scoring guards.
A streetball legend in his own right, the man popularized some of the most viral trends in pickup basketball. Many basketball players, amateur or pro, regard Crawford as the greatest ball-handler of all time.
Crawford also holds the unique record of making the most 4-point plays in NBA history.

Crawford was selected by the Chicago Bulls as a one-and-done prospect from Michigan. He is one of the best players from the class of 2000, and was considered one of the most exciting guards in college basketball.
Jordan Brand was interested in signing the 19-year-old to a deal. He’d raised eyebrows with Michael Jordan, who was a GM with the Washington Wizards at the time. However, he still played basketball whenever he could, and he could still give young ‘uns the business.
Crawford talks about the experience of playing pickup ball with the hoops legend on the Knuckleheads Podcast:
“I’m at hoops every day. We’re hooping, we’re getting it in, we were playing on the same team and we never lost. And I’m not talking about we won 5 one day and someone won 4. I’m talking like every single game.”
“I remember one time when I had the ball on the fast break and I threw it ahead, I thought I threw it too high. But this man jumped up, caught the ball like a baseball fielder.”
“Never touched it with his left hand, he took one dribble and dunked it. I said ‘What!’ My man is flying through the air, doing that at 40 like he’s 20. Those hands were a cheat code.”
