‘LeBron James, don’t try to be or beat Michael Jordan’: Skip Bayless quotes horrendous Space Jam 2 reviews before watching it
LeBron James has finally released ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’, following up on Michael Jordan, but the reviews have been subpar up till now.
The hype for the new Space Jam was incredible. Michael Jordan’s original was such a success that it seemed likely that LeBron would only follow up on his legacy. Additionally, the cast for the movie was loaded with some heavy hitters including Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Zendaya, and more.
However, the movie hasn’t gone over as well as hoped. The movie has only a 3.6 IMDB rating so far, and it’s achieved only a 38% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s pretty terrible as far as movies can go.
‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ is unsurprisingly getting crushed by critics. The film has a 38% on Rotten Tomatoes (77 reviews) and a 39 on Metacritic (27 reviews).
The sequel is releasing a HBO Max & Theaters this weekend, and is projected to make only around $20M – a very low bar. pic.twitter.com/DjX4MpPR09

Skip Bayless Blasts LeBron James For Not Living Up To Michael Jordan And His Version Of Space Jam
LeBron James has a lot to live up to when it comes to catching Michael Jordan, on or off the court. Just think about it. His whole career, LeBron has always had to face the comparison to MJ. Championships, MVPs, scoring titles, and other stats are always brought up around him.
The GOAT debate will never end between him and MJ, and so when LeBron announced that he would be starring in a second Space Jam movie, the comparisons grew tremendously. Now, LeBron was entering something truly risky.
With basketball, you could always say that comparisons weren’t fair to make since they both played in different eras, different positions, etc. However, with acting, all those discrepancies don’t apply. Acting is timeless, and putting out a good movie can happen in any which way.
This is as close as you can get to comparing Michael Jordan and LeBron James in any sense. And for now, it looks like Jordan has the upper hand, something Skip Bayless was keen to quote.
Tonight I’m going to watch “Space Jam: A Stained Legacy” to see if the onslaught of shockingly negative reviews is possibly wrong. Could LeBron’s version of this classic really be as bad as his meltdown in the 2011 Finals? I tried to warn him: DO NOT TRY TO BE OR BEAT MJ. #LeGone

Critics have been crushing the movie so far.
Review: #SpaceJam2 2/5 🌟’s
Space Jam: A New Legacy feels like an ongoing corporate commercial/promotion for Warner Brothers. Rather than reach for the authenticity of the original, like most sequels, this movie is built on forgettable themes and overblown plot-lines. pic.twitter.com/c4x4onIzZi

“A tour of corporate synergy, SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY is a CGI cacophony of crass, soulless, IP-driven commercialism.”

However, there are people on the other side of the debate too, saying that the critiques are too harsh because they aren’t considering the target audience of the movie: kids.
Some of the reviews of SPACE JAM: A NEW LEGACY are missing the point. This movie wasn’t made for grown ups, it was made for kids. And if there’s one thing that kids today love, it’s references to Casablanca and A Clockwork Orange

As far as my take for the movie, all I can say is that go in with a blank mind. You should judge the movie on your own and come to your own decision as to whether you like it or not.
