Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams couldn’t hide his feelings and breaks down during the postgame press conference

 

Monty Williams and the Phoenix Suns may have lost, but they still deserve all the credit in the world for their season.

Even when Chris Paul and Jae Crowder got to Phoenix, not many really saw them getting past the second round. But, just a few short months later, fans saw the team duking it out with the champion of the East, in the NBA Finals.

The thing that will hurt Suns fans the most though, is how close they were to winning it all. After the first 2 games, they were just two wins away from the promised land, from being the NBA champions. But of course, as we know now, those wins would never come.

After their loss, the team had to sit down for the postgame press conference. And during his turn, Monty Williams just couldn’t hold back any longer.

Monty Williams has been lauded for his maturity and humility on multiple occasions, and justifiably so. The 49-year-old has been nothing but impressive over the course of this year with Phoenix. And yes, sometimes he did make mistakes, but even some of the greatest at his position have made some horrible errors, and the Suns head coach shouldn’t be humiliated for it.

That aside, this run clearly meant a lot to Williams. And while many knew he was in pain after the loss, not everyone realized just how much it was until his press conference. Take a look at the clip in the tweet below.

Later reports on Twitter said that the head coach couldn’t stop the tears rolling down his eyes, and shared a long hug with one of his players.

Just making the finals by itself is frankly a massive feat. And given that this is still such a young team, we hope they can learn from this season, and come back even stronger during the next campaign.
