“We felt that line was overstepped”– Toto Wolff on Red Bull’s behaviour
“We felt that line was overstepped”– Toto Wolff feels a line was overstepped by Red Bull while wanting justice for Max Verstappen’s crash.
Since last week, Toto Wolff has been accusing Red Bull of going personal to settle their score against Lewis Hamilton for allegedly causing a 51G crash on Max Verstappen.
In the recent comments by Wolff, after the stewards denied to further go with the investigation after Red Bull, has claimed that the Milton-Keynes based team crossed a line.
“I think we wanted to bring a little bit of respect back to the discussion,” Wolff told RacingNews365.com. “We understand that emotions can run high, and it is always a matter of perspective and perception, but we felt that line was overstepped.
“I think the remarks that were made during and after the Silverstone Grand Prix were just elaborated further in the document and not always looking at the incident only, but giving it a wider taste and that was, beyond other things, just a step too far.”
Wolff can’t elaborate.
When asked to specify the vicious accusations on hamilton by Red Bull, the Austrian team principal denied elaborating the context to not further fuel the controversy.
“I can’t, because I don’t want to ignite even more the fire, and the controversy,” Wolff added. “I think what we need to do as a sports team is to de-escalate and not create more polarisation on social media.”
Though, Mercedes made its attack on Red Bull a few moments after the decision was made to not proceed with the investigation, and have demanded from their rivals to not further malign their superstar Hamilton.
Whether the controversy will reflect on the track remains to be seen as Mercedes and Red Bull had their moments on the track during the two free practice sessions on Friday.
Everything is close between these two…
