“What kind of penalty is this compared to Hamilton’s offence?”– Red Bull’s Helmut Marko wants F1 to revisit its criteria of penalties.
During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Sebastian Vettel was disqualified by the officials for having an insufficient amount of fuel in his car after the end of the race.
Which resulted in stewards stripping him from his hard-earned P2 position, and in the end, it benefitted Lewis Hamilton, who was promoted to the P2 and Carlos Sainz, as he was awarded the P3 podium.
Red Bull chief Helmut Marko is baffled by the decision of disqualifying Vettel on something as strange as lack of fuel. At the same time, Mercedes’ got away with little punishment for inflicting damage on Red Bull for two straight races.
“Vettel was disqualified because there was not enough fuel left in the tank. The relationship between the penalties needs to be reviewed. It is clear why Vettel almost ran out of fuel.”
“Because a normal race was calculated in and then he just consumed more in the fight with [Esteban] Ocon – no driver saves fuel in this situation. What kind of penalty is this compared to Hamilton’s offence?” said Marko in an interview with Speedweek.com.
Ironical when Lewis Hamilton complains about Fernando Alonso
Marko then attacks Hamilton for complaining about Fernando Alonso’s wheel-to-wheel defending during the race in Hungary but didn’t say a word for causing a 51G crash on Max Verstappen.
“Then there is Hamilton’s statement about Fernando Alonso’s dangerous driving. He drove sensationally, defended optimally, and then this statement from someone who eliminated a competitor one race earlier.”
Though, Hamilton later rephrased his opinion on his battle with Alonso and called it an amazing clash. Now Red Bull is set to battle out against Mercedes in Belgium to recover their deficit in the championship fight.
