“You can just maul Stephen Curry and the referres won’t call a thing”: Andre Iguodala explains why he’d guard the Warriors’ superstar over Allen Iverson in a refereed game
Warriors’ veteran Andre Iguodala elaborated on why he’d pick guarding Stephen Curry over Allen Iverson in a refereed game
The Golden State Warriors are hoping to make their way back to a playoff berth in the coming season. With Klay Thompson‘s return next season, a playoffs berth was a given. With Stephen Curry showing his class last season and winning the scoring title while being injured, the Warriors have hopes for a title.
For that, they have added some key veterans and brought back one of the favorites: Andre Iguodala. Andre has been one of Steph’s most vocal supporters and has always been in the 2x MVP’s corner. That is why Andre has never been shy calling out people for any wrongdoing against Steph. Turns out, referees are no exception for the same.
Andre Iguodala shares how Stephen Curry doesn’t even receive a fraction of the calls he should
If there is one person in the NBA who is doubted regularly, despite all he’s accomplished, is Stephen Curry. Ever since he was in high school, the odds were never stacked in Curry’s favor. The same translated to the NBA as well. One would think winning 3 NBA championships, or becoming the only unanimous league MVP would change that, but it hasn’t. The referees as well as his peers still fail to give Steph the recognition he should get.
When Andre was on the NBA Countdown on ESPN, he said that he’d much rather guard Stephen Curry over Allen Iverson in a refereed 1 on 1. He said that AI finds ways to get to the foul line, while Steph, being a 2x MVP, gets only 2 or so foul calls a game.
While that has changed in the last season, Steph still doesn’t get as many calls as he should. Hopefully the same gets rectified in the upcoming season.
