“Dennis Schroder, what the hell were you thinking?!”: Shaquille O’Neal slams former Lakers star’s greed after he declined the 4 year, $84 million extension, to land up with a $5.9 million contract
Shaquille O’Neal questions Dennis Schroder for giving up $21 million a year with the Lakers, to get $5.9 million with the Celtics
The NBA free agency started 9 days ago, yet it has gotten very quiet. After a flurry of trades within the first three days, the free agency market cooled down considerably. The Los Angeles Lakers wasted no time in free agency and stuffed their roster. They acquired names like Russell Westbrook, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza. They also added Kent Bazemore, Wayne Ellington, Kendrick Nunn.
With all these additions, they had no space, or need to re-sign Dennis Schroder. The Lakers gave up Rajon Rondo and a few more vital pieces to bring over Schroder last season. However, things did not work well between the German point guard and the Lakers. Schroder had one of the worst years shooting-wise, and his production was not what the Lakers were looking for.
Shaquille O’Neal mocks Dennis Schroder for his greed
In the regular season, the Lakers offered Schroder a 4 year, $84 million extension. However, the point guard declined the same, expecting a deal well over $100 million. However, his ask was not up to his actions. In the end, the Lakers had no need for him after their free agency moves and Schroder tried the free agency markets.
A lot of teams did not interact with Schroder due to the amount he was asking for. Meanwhile, it was said that the Celtics and Schroder had been talking for days. The Cs were offering Dennis $5.9 million, while Dennis was trying to push it to over $10 million. In the end, Dennis signed a 1 year, $5.9 million deal with the Boston Celtics.
Shaquille O’Neal could not sit around and not comment about what just happened, and so he did. He posted on Instagram, with the caption “Things that make you go hmmmmmm #whatthehellareyouthinking”

Dennis Schroder would look to have a big season with the Celtics, so he could hope to secure a bigger contract for the upcoming seasons.
