James Anderson news: Will Jimmy Anderson play 2nd England vs India Test at Lord’s?

James Anderson: The veteran English fast bowler has become the latest name in their squad to come under an injury cloud.

Veteran England fast bowler James Anderson has become the latest player to suffer an injury scare on the eve of the second Test match against India at Lord’s.

Anderson was the second-best English bowler in the first Test in Nottingham with bowling figures of 28-9-66-4 comprising of dismissals of Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Lokesh Rahul and Shardul Thakur in the first innings.

Anderson, 39, had also surpassed for former India captain Anil Kumble at Trent Bridge as far as highest number of wickets in Test matches are concerned.

While England had already received a massive blow in the form of another veteran in Stuart Broad missing the second Test due to an injury, Anderson’s potential absence is likely to cost them dearly tomorrow.

According to reports, Anderson is suffering from a tight quad. It is due to the same reason that the right-arm bowler opted to skip training at Lord’s today. In what was more of a precautionary measure, English fans would be hoping for Anderson to recover in whatever limited time is left before the start of the second Test.

While England have added uncapped pacer Saqib Mahmood as a cover for the match, even Anderson’s absence (if it happens) might not be able to hand him a debut for fast bowlers Mark Wood and Craig Overton are up in the pecking order with respect to making it to the Playing XI on Thursday.

Readers must note that England are already without the likes of Jofra Archer (elbow injury), Ben Stokes (personal reasons), Chris Woakes (heel injury) and Olly Stone (stress fracture) in this series.
