Indian players shouldn’t ask for rest as they get paid in millions says Dean Jones

Former Australian cricketer Dean Jones took a sly dig at the Indian cricketers for asking rest despite getting paid in millions. Jones said that the players should keep playing as long as they are in form.

India are currently playing Sri Lanka in the Test series. After that, India will play 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is against the same opposition. India have not got enough time left in their cards for ideal preparations as they have just 2 days before jetting off to South Africa.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli also vent out his frustration to the reporters about the lack of time in preparing for the futuristic tour. He said that had they have been given a month of practice, it would have been good.

Since there is no time for preparation, Virat Kohli & Co are go about their business in ‘green pitches’ to get ready for South Africa tour that gets underway from January 5.

“I can’t really speak on behalf of Virat and MS (Dhoni). When in form and you are playing well, the season is not long enough. You just want to keep playing,” Dean Jones told “NDTV” today.

If one is scoring runs and winning matches, playing is the only option and not resting according to Dean Jones. “If you are making runs and winning easily you just want to keep playing. When you are struggling and the team is being smashed, like Sri Lanka at the moment, the season can’t end quick enough.

“If these guys are getting paid millions of dollars a year and if they are going to get millions of dollars then they have to keep playing (every) series so they can recoup their money through television and sponsorships. So they need to keep playing,” Dean Jones added.
