Former India Spin Wizard Bishan Singh Bedi questions BCCI for politicising cricket
Former India captain and spin wizard Bishan Singh Bedi questioned Board of Control for Cricket in India for politicizing cricket. He was particularly not happy when the gap between India and Pakistan in terms of sporting carnival has grown to a larger extent.
India was last seen playing against Pakistan in a series was in the year 2012. Since then, both have met only in ICC tournaments. However, International Cricket Council men’s Future Tours Programme confirmed that Pakistan will not be included in India’s schedule for four years starting from 2019 onwards.
Things got a bit worse between the two nations when BCCI opened up that, they are finding ways to avoid Pakistan even in the women’s FTP. The political relationship between the two nations has gone from bad to worse but little did everyone know that this problem would extend even in cricket.
During the annual Delhi District Cricket Association Conclave meeting, Bishan Singh Bedi told PTI in an interaction, “Why politicise cricket? Have you been able to wipe off terrorism by not playing cricket? Cricket is a platform to come closer.”
Bishan Singh Bedi said that the political relationship is nothing to do with cricket. He urged the involved people to not narrow down what patriotism is about.
He added, “This is not right. I am not talking anti-India if I am asking for a cricket series with Pakistan. Let’s not narrow down the meaning of patriotism.”
