WATCH: Kamran Akmal’s ‘shocking leave’ behind the stumps takes everyone by surprise
Pakistan’s experienced campaigner Kamran Akmal has been the talk of the town for his ‘epic leave’ behind the stumps in the ongoing T10 cricket league.
Akmal has often been ridiculed for his wicketkeeping skills but this time he went a step ahead, missing a straight forward collection.
Mohammad Amir’s bouncer down the leg side to Paul Stirling was a little too quick for the batsman and despite the ball being just a hand’s reach away from Akmal, he refused to go for the dive, leaving Amir fuming.
The replay suggested Kamran Akmal had a clear-cut chance to go for the catch but he didn’t make an earnest attempt.
Kerala Kings aced the 98-run chase and booked their place in the finals. Even with the bat, Kamran Akmal failed to make the cut as he scored a mediocre 9 runs.
With no international cricket for Kamran Akmal for close to three years, things haven’t been really good for him as he has been faltering in domestic cricket too.
However, Kamran Akmal his domestic T20 form has been good. He is the only Pakistani batsman to have bludgeoned a staggering 150* off 71 balls to his name quite recently playing for Lahore Whites against Islamabad.
“I have been doing what a player needs to do — score runs — and that too in all formats of the game.
I have been performing in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy and now am doing so in T20 cricket as well,” Kamran told The Express Tribune.
“I am just concentrating on my game, which I’m supposed to do. The rest is up to the selectors and the board.
Every player who performs in domestic competition hopes to make it into the national team,” he said.
“My job is to stay fit and perform to the best of my ability. If I am making records and performing consistently then that is all I can do from my end.
Hopefully, the selectors will take notice. They are watching a lot of players and I hope my hard work can pay the dividend,” he concluded.
