Rohit Sharma slams MS Dhoni’s critics
A day after Ravi Shastri launched a scathing attack on MS Dhoni’s critics, Rohit Sharma too has joined the bandwagon and has expressed his ‘shock’ over criticism of MS Dhoni.
MS Dhoni had a stellar series against Sri Lanka, performing with both, his bat and his gloves, and helping Indian post two rather easy series wins over Sri Lanka.
Dhoni was the only batsman who got runs for India in the first ODI in Dharamshala, where all other Indian batsman refused to apply themselves in tricky and challenging conditions.
Dhoni’s glove work was flawless all through the series as well, and Ravi Shastri asked all his critics to keep their opinion to themselves. According to Shastri, at 36, Dhoni is probably the fittest in the Indian team, and that there is not keeper in the Indian circuit, ready enough to take up the job.
Rohit Sharma was flabbergasted with the criticism that Dhoni had been receiving and said that he couldn’t understand the basis for the criticism, as MS has been performing well in the limited overs format for a long time now.
“I am shocked that this question is being raised. If you look at the recent performances, I don’t understand why people are still talking about it. It is not about whether he will be part of the 2019 World Cup, his recent form has been good.”
“It is too far off and we should focus on what is happening now. He bats at No. 6 and does not get to play as many balls as some of us at the top of the order,” Rohit told Boria Majumdar today.
Rohit used Dhoni at the number 4 and the number 3 spot in the T20 series, and when asked if Dhoni should continue to bat higher up the order, Rohit said that he had seen Dhoni bat at all positions, and was sure that Dhoni’s batting position could be altered according to the situation.
“That decision lies with the coach and the captain. I have seen him bat from four to six, and even batted at three in the IPL. That wicket in Rajkot (the second T20I vs New Zealand) was tough and we had lost four wickets when he went into bat. People need to look at the game situation before they talk,” Rohit concluded.
