WATCH: Virat Kohli reacts as Murali Vijay survives due to DRS
While India and BCCI have always been reluctant about the DRS, it came to their and Vijay’s rescue twice today, when the umpire had once adjudged him LBW and once caught behind.
Vijay had always been India’ go-to batsman in overseas tours, leaving the ball to perfection and setting a brilliant platform for the middle order batsmen, after having stemmed that initial surge of attack from the opposition bowlers.
And when India were given the target of 208, it seemed like Vijay would be one of the most important components in this tantalising chase for India.
Vijay and Dhawan got off to the perfect start, shouldering arms to those teasing lines outside off stump and taking full toll of any loose ones dished out by the South African pacers.
But Vijay had his moments of despair, having been adjudged LBW, after shuffling a little to the off side and missing a straight one from Philander, with the umpire judging it to crash into the stumps.
It looked like the umpire had made a good enough decision, but Vijay consulted Dhawan a bit, and then went upstairs.
The ball pitched in line, with the impact being in line as well, but Vijay was hit above the knee roll, and the ball was going onto miss the stumps.
The decision thus had to be reversed, and Vijay could continue on.
Virat Kohli was mighty pleased with the referral, jumping and clapping and expressing his happiness over the overturned decision.

Vijay though ultimately had to depart as he edged one to AB de Villiers.
India are currently 3 down for 60, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma hoping to string together a partnership to help India mount a surge on this run chase,
