Gautam Gambhir officially announced Delhi Daredevils captain
One of the worst kept secrets for IPL 2018 has finally come out, as Delhi Daredevils have officially announced Gautam Gambhir as their skipper for the upcoming season.
Gambhir will lead his home town side after returning to the team that gave him his first start in the IPL. The elegant left-hander was superb for Delhi in the first three seasons, but was eventually picked up by KKR in the 2011 auctions.
It is no secret that Gambhir was hurt that Delhi did not even bother to buy him back, which is why he went to KKR with an enormous chip on his shoulder. The left hander then went on to become one of the greatest IPL skippers of all time, as Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles in three years.
Now at the fag end of his career, Gambhir was let go by KKR in January’s auction, as the Kolkata franchise started preparing for a future without their iconic skipper. For his part, Gambhir was quite content to leave KKR and understood their decision to not bid for him in the auction.

Delhi then swooped in and picked up Gambhir, in a move that suited both parties perfectly. The Daredevils needed a skipper, while Gambhir preferred to stay close to his family in Delhi which worked perfectly for both sides.
This is what Gambhir had to say after the bring appointed the Delhi skipper.
Gambhir will certainly be looking to guide Delhi to a great season, as another IPL title with this Delhi team will underline his credentials as the greatest IPL skipper of all time.
