Verstappen responds to Hamilton’s ‘dickhead’ comment
The Verstappen-Hamilton wheel-to-wheel tussle at the Bahrain Grand Prix has been subject to a lot of discussion, one because Verstappen had to retire, and two because Hamilton made that ‘dickhead’ remark in the driver’s room just after the race.
Hamilton was asked about his comments in the driver’s room during the post race press conference and Vettel was quick to jump in and highlight the ‘adrenaline quotient’ around the entire incident and how sometimes drivers/athletes can mutter ‘abusive words’ whilst still in game mode.
Verstappen was asked about Hamilton’s ‘dickhead comment’ in a Dutch TV show called ‘Peptalk’. The video was shown to Verstappen via Skype.
The Dutch though played down the entire incident admitting that such things can happen during the heat of the moment.
“He is just out of the car there. Then those things can happen. If you are just out of the car, you are still full of adrenaline, so yeah.” Max said.
Hamilton had also remarked that maybe Verstappen isn’t that mature to be driving that amazing Red Bull machine, as an experienced driver like Alonso would not be committing the silly mistakes that Verstappen had made in Australia and Bahrain.
Verstappen though felt that he had the chance of overtaking Hamilton and it was only normal to go for it as he believed he had the car to take him to the podium at Bahrain.
“I was really close behind and there was a chance to overtake, so I thought it was a good opportunity,” Verstappen said.
“Our car was great. Then I’m not going to stay behind him.
“I knew we had a very good car for the race, so I knew we would be able to fight them.” he added.
Max was also asked about Ricciardo’s electric failure and if that could be a big problem for Red Bull this season.
“I think I had the same problem during testing. After that it didn’t return, but unfortunately this time in the race it did.
“I think overall it’s reasonably OK. The situation is better than last year, that’s for sure. But yeah, it’s not ideal.” he concluded.
