Ravichandran Ashwin opens up after KXIP’s loss to RCB

Ravichandran Ashwin has taken to captaincy in the IPL brilliantly, bringing his strategic thinking to the fore and looking to always attack the batsman in the field.

And when you are up against one of the best batting line-ups in the business, attack is the best form of defence.

Ashwin’s boys could manage only 155 on this batting paradise in Bangalore and were left 25-30 runs short as the middle order succumbed to a middle overs collapse.

However, KXIP got off to a brilliant start, getting BMac out in the first over itself and when Mujeeb got through Kohli’s defence, it seemed like the tables had turned.

But then it was time for Bangalore’s adopted son to take his franchise home, and he responded big time, scoring 57 under immense pressure.

Ashwin was content with how his boys fought especially after being up against it in the second innings.

When asked if the pressure was on the Kings XI bowlers, Ashwin was quick to point out that when you are up against quality batsman, the pressure is sometimes on those batsmen, as they need to rise to the occasion.

“(On the result) I am really proud of the way the boys fought. Always thought we had our backs against the wall because we were about 20-30 short. Still we fought hard and I am proud of the guys. (If the toss is crucial this season) Cannot always depend on the tosses, tournaments are won on good performances. (Whether the RCB top order is intimidating) Not that intimidating to be honest, pressure is on them actually due to their reputations. I thought our boys did well by putting in a good effort. (On captaincy) It’s good so far, I am really enjoying it. Cannot ask for anything better from the boys. (If KXIP are spin-heavy) I think the best bowlers are still going to be the best ones. This wicket wasn’t exactly great for spin bowling with the dew around but we showed them what we are capable of. At the end of the day, good bowlers are still good bowlers.” Ashwin sai
