Hamilton worried about Mercedes’ pace this season
Hamilton currently leads the driver standing by 4 points but hasn’t had the kind of impact that he would have wanted this season.
When Mercedes stepped onto the track in Barcelona, it seemed like it would be another one-sided season with Mercedes dominating all through.
Those fears were cemented when Hamilton dished out that ‘party mode’ lap in Melbourne, but since then it has all been downhill for Mercedes and Hamilton, at least with respect to ‘performance’ on track.
However, the points table suggests a different story as Hamilton currently tops it, but knows that ‘luck’ has played a huge role in it.
Hamilton isn’t quite satisfied with the performance of the car and wants massive improvements if Mercedes want to go out and win both the driver’s and constructor’s championship.
“Leading the championship is great, but if we continue as we are, it will take a lot of lucky races to keep me here,” Hamilton said.
“And you can’t expect that for the next 17 races.
“The car has the pace but we are not unlocking it. We need performance and I need a rhythm and they’re not in perfect harmony.” he added.
The Brith though is looking forward to the battle with Vettel and is up for the fight as that would make the win even sweeter.
“Their pure pace is much better than ours at the moment. By no means do we have a bad car, but we need to improve it to make it easier to drive,” he added.
“I felt really good in Australia but it hasn’t worked out since then and I’m not sure why.
“It’s kind of cool but he has got a bloody good car and it is going to take every ounce out of me to try and win.
“We are going to have intense battle but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
“The better he is the harder I have to work and it makes it all the more satisfying when I win.” he concluded.
