Suresh Raina congratulates Sunil Chhetri and Indian team on a stellar performance

It was a night that belonged to Sunil Chhetri and his boys. While the entire country was recovering from the hangover of the IPL, Chhetri woke everyone up with his incisive social media message, pleading the Indian football audience to come out in support of the Indian football team.

For long now people had neglected the Indian football scene for the lack of quality and because they had been accustomed to watching stalwarts like Messi and Ronaldo ply their trade in Europe.

Chhetri urged people to be part of the football revolution in India, to ignite it and to take it to where it belonged.

India responded as social media was abuzz with support for Chhetri and his man. A promise was issued, that Chhetri’s 100th game would be sold out, and sold out it was.

The Mumbai football arena saw Indian fans come in in numbers and support the national team. It was a special moment for Chhetri, a special moment for Indian football.

Everything got just a little better when Chhetri scored that lovely penalty to give India the lead on a soggy and wet night in Mumbai.

Jeje then came up with a thumping left foot volley and to top it all off, Chhetri dished out one of the most sublime chip finishes to send the stadium in a frenzy.

The fans who had made their way to the Mumbai Football Arena made their voices heard after the game and social media too was ablaze with tweets for Sunil Chhetri.

Suresh Raina, who is enjoying his off time in Amsterdam came up with a wonderful tweet for Chhetri who displayed such grit and determination in his 100th game.
