Arsenal interested in signing RB Leipzig’s fullback Lukas Klostermann
Arsenal have completed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner, and are looking to strengthen their defence as they case the RB Leipzig star.
Unai Emery looks set to bolster Arsenal’s defence, as the club has expressed interest in signing RB Leipzig’s fullback Lukas Klostermann. Arsenal have already announced the acquisition of Stephan Lichtsteiner from Juventus. The club is expected to start their formal approach for Klostermann after the Sokratis deal is confirmed. German media outfit BILD has reported about Arsenal’s interest in the Bundesliga star.
Arsenal had a disappointing season with their defence, which saw them finish 6th in the Premier League. The North-London club are also currently suffering from defensive crisis.
Per Mertesacker has retired, and Laurent Koscielny is sidelined with injury for some time, which he suffered during their game against Atletico Madrid. Hector Bellerin and Shkodran Mustafi have been too inconsistent throughout the season and Konstantinos Mavropanos hasn’t really made it to first-team football yet.
Lukas Klostermann is a versatile defender who can play at full back as well as centre-back position with ease. According to BILD, his recent performances have caught Arsenal’s interest.
Arsenal are expected to announce the signing of Sokratis Papastathopoulos by the end of this week, after which the North-London club can approach RB Leipzing for a potential transfer.
Klostermann has played 74 matches since joining the German club in 2014. He has a contract with RB Leipzig until 2021.
Arsenal have recently had a transfer deal with Bundesliga club, when Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang joined the North London club from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window.
