Pat Cummins injury: Who will captain Australia in 2nd test vs West Indies in Adelaide?
Australia and West Indies will be up against each other in the 2nd test of the 2-match series at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide. The hosts won the first test, and they will be eager to get their hands on the trophy. However, the injury of Pat Cummins is a thing of worry for the side.
The Australian batters proved their authority in the last match where Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne scored double-centuries. It is a pink ball test, so batting can be a little tough here as it has been seen that the pacers have enjoyed bowling in day-night tests.
Scott Boland is in line to make his way in Australian playing 11 as a replacement for captain Cummins. Boland had a terrific home Ashes last season, and he is certainly a certain pick in the eleven for this match.
Pat Cummins injury
Australian test captain Pat Cummins has been ruled out of the 2nd test against West Indies due to the injury he suffered during the 1st match in Perth. Under Cummins’ absence, vice-captain Steve Smith will be leading the side in Adelaide. Smith was re-instated to the leadership role in tests last year after Tim Paine’s ban.
Smith confirmed that the injury of Cummins is not serious, and he will be ready to go in the first test against South Africa starting next week in Brisbane. He said that it is the right call to drop Cummins for this match as there is a lot of cricket coming up front, and the pacers are prone to injuries.
“I don’t think he was too far away (from playing) and he will continue to build this week,” Smith said of Cummins to the reporters..
“But with what’s coming up, a big series against South Africa and then Tests in India, there’s a lot of cricket.”
Steve Smith is ‘chilled’ about leading Australia
Smith said that he is not under any kind of pressure ahead of the Adelaide test. He said that he has his own way to lead the side, and he won’t be trying to copy anyone. Smith has a lot of experience leading on the international stage, and he is certainly a perfect candidate to replace Cummins as the leader.
“I have to do it my own way, I can’t be someone else,” said Smith.
“I am pretty chilled – I took over for the game here last year and thought it went pretty smoothly. So same again.”
