Rohit Sharma replacement: Who can replace Indian captain in test series vs Bangladesh?

Team India lost the ODI series against Bangladesh by losing the 2nd ODI by 5 runs in Mirpur, but this match will be known for the grit and determination of the Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who came out to bat for the Indian team despite injuring his thumb while fielding in the 2nd ODI.

After getting injured, it was said that Rohit might not bat for the Indian team, but the Indian captain came out to bat at the number 9 position, and he smashed a brilliant half-century. However, he just fell short in the end, but it was certainly a valiant effort from the skipper.

In the absence of Rohit, Shubman Gill should partner Shikhar Dhawan at the top. Both of them have opened quite a lot together in the ODIs this year. However, the team will have to name a replacement for the tests.

Rohit Sharma is now expected to come to Mumbai to see a specialist, and it is very unlikely that he will be a part of the test series against Bangladesh as well. He was the designated opener of the test team as well, and he will certainly be a big miss for the team.

There are a lot of top-order options to replace Rohit in the team, but it is looking like Abhimanyu Easwaran will be getting the nod. According to PTI, Easwaran looks like the favourite to join the Indian team for the test series. He is currently in Bangladesh only representing the India A team.

“Abhimanyu Easwaran has scored back-to-back hundreds in the ongoing A Test series and is an opener. In all likelihood, he will join the squad in Chattogram after finishing his second A Test in Sylhet,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity as quoted by Times of India.

Easwaran has been excellent on the Bangladesh tour, and he has already scored a couple of centuries in two matches so far. He scored 413 runs for Bengal in the last Ranji season with the help of 1 century and 3 half-centuries.
