Amidst 3-8 Slide, Damian Lillard Picks Giannis Antetokounmpo As His Dream Teammate On The Blazers

Damian Lillard has been the lone superstar on the Portland Trailblazers roster ever since LaMarcus Aldridge made his way to the San Antonio Spurs. This was in 2015. For the past 7 seasons, Dame’s best teammates have been CJ McCollum and now, Jerami Grant, the former Detroit Piston. 

The Blazers this season started off atop the Western Conference but due to injuries to guys like Gary Payton II, Nassir Little, and Dame himself, they have started to middle. Following their most recent heartbreaker loss to the Denver Nugget, they are currently just over .500 with a 13-12 record. 

Amidst yet another season where it feels as though Portland might be going down the ‘first-round exit’ route, Lillard took to GQ to let fans know who would be a player he would love to play with.

Damian Lillard picks Giannis Antetokounmpo as the superstar he would want to play with 

Rumors of Damian Lillard wanting to team up with Milwaukee Bucks MVP, Giannis Antetokounmpo, have been circulating across the Twittersphere for years now. Dame finally confirmed this back in May of this year when he said he would like to play with him if the stars aligned. 

Now, in this GQ interview of his, the 32-year-old point guard once again confirms that he still holds out hope that he will get to play alongside the 2021 Finals MVP.

Lillard is quite the cerebral player. He knows very well that what he brings to the table would mesh perfectly with what Giannis brings to the table. It would perhaps be the greatest 1-2 punch duo from a drive-and-dish standpoint. 

The entirety of the paint would be Giannis’s to command while any dish out to Dame on the perimeter would require an instant double-team. The amount of defenses that would scramble in hopes of covering the two would most certainly be mind-boggling.

Both Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo have said on multiple occasions that they would like to finish out their careers in the respective cities that drafted them. At least for the Bucks, they helped bring a championship to ‘The Greek Freak’. 

Portland on the other hand, has failed to surround their superstar with the right players for a serious level of title contention. This iteration of the Blazers looks promising given their stellar chemistry but it’s unclear if they can punch above their weight on a consistent basis.
