“Red Bull should buy Lando Norris”: F1 expert explains why Max Verstappen needs new teammate before 2025

"Red Bull should buy Lando Norris": F1 expert explains why Max Verstappen needs new teammate before 2025

Lando Norris is one the most exciting young talents in F1 today. He made his debut with McLaren in 2019 and showed how promising he was in his very first year. He has gone on to finish on the podium six times with the Woking-based outfit, but despite his best efforts, he has failed to win a race to date.

Norris came very close to winning his first-ever Grand Prix in Russia last year, but that was more of a one-off event. This is because McLaren hasn’t provided him with a car that is capable of competing for wins on a regular basis. They showed some good signs of progress in 2021 and people expected them to make major strides this year, but that hasn’t been the case.

In fact, McLaren finished fifth this year, compared to their P4 finish in 2021. Before the season started, Norris signed a contract extension with the British squad, insisting that he believes that they have what it takes to help him win a World Championship.

Karun Chandhok calls for Lando Norris and Max Verstappen to be teammates

Max Verstappen is currently at the top of the F1 world. He won the Title in 2021 after a tussle with the legendary seven-time World Champion, Lewis Hamilton. 2022, however, has been a walk in the park for the Dutchman, who won 15 races on his way to securing the crown for the second year in a row.

His teammate Sergio Perez, has had an underwhelming stint. He arrived in 2021, and has shown glimpses of brilliance, but has been miles off the pace compared to Verstappen. On top of that, his performances in the second of 2022 have drawn in plenty of criticism from several pundits, including Sky Sports’ Karun Chandhok.

Chandhok, feels that Red Bull should take advantage of Norris misfortune. The Indian former F1 driver calls for them to lure Norris into Red Bull, by buying him out of his contract. “I think they should be going hard to try and buy Lando Norris,”  he said.

Norris wouldn’t want to be stuck in the midfield for very long. If McLaren don’t manage to find a way to reach the front, the 23-year-old may actually look to head over to Red Bull as Perez’s replacement.
