Greenfield International Stadium Thiruvananthapuram ODI records: Greenfield Stadium records and highest innings totals
Two out of the three venues for the ongoing ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, Barsapara Cricket Stadium and Greenfield International Cricket Stadium have a couple of things in common.
In addition to both the venues last hosting an international match during an India-South Africa T20I series last year, their first and last ODI before the ongoing India-Sri Lanka ODI series had come during West Indies’ tour of India 2018.
With the hosts already sealing the series, a dead-rubber will be played in Thiruvananthapuram tomorrow. While India have won three out of their four matches at this stadium, Sri Lanka will be playing here for the first time. With a lot of pride left to be played for, the visitors will be looking to put an end to this tour on the back of a victory.
Currently in the middle of a busy home winter season, it wouldn’t be a surprise if India opt to rest a key player or two on Saturday.
Greenfield International Stadium Thiruvananthapuram ODI records
A venue which has hosted only one ODI doesn’t have a lot of records per se. As far as the best batters from the first Thiruvananthapuram ODI are concerned, Rohit Sharma (63), Virat Kohli (33), Jason Holder (25), Marlon Samuels (24) and Rovman Powell (16) are the only batters to have reached double digits back then.
Ravindra Jadeja (4), Jasprit Bumrah (2) and Khaleel Ahmed (2) are the only three bowlers to have dismissed more than one batter in the lone ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium.
Other than Sharma, Kohli and Kuldeep Yadav (1/18), no other Indian player part of the current squad had played that ODI against West Indies.
Highest innings totals in Thiruvananthapuram ODIs
A one-sided low-scoring match had witnessed India bundling out West Indies for 104 in 31.5 overs after the then visiting captain Holder had won the toss and chose to bat. An effortless 78-ball 99-run second-wicket partnership between Sharma and Kohli had powered India to a 9-wicket victory in the 15th over.
As a result, 105/1 is both the highest ODI innings total and the highest successful ODI run-chase at this stadium.
