Raikkonen responds to McLaren rumours
The ‘driver transfer’ rumours are getting spicier by the day and when the rumour mill churns, no one is spared.
Kimi Raikkonen saw himself dragged into the hooplah too, as a number of circling rumours suggested that the Finn would be moving to McLaren next season.
Kimi hasn’t had the ‘perfect’ season with Ferrari until now but has confirmed that all the ‘McLaren talk’ is all rubbish.
Raikkonen was quizzed about his current contract with Ferrari and about any contact from McLaren to replace Alonso.
“I don’t know really, I said in 2007 I wanted to finish with Ferrari and at some point it didn’t look like that – now it looks like that again.
“You never know what comes after this and that. We’ll see. As always, a lot of talk, and I’m not really happy to comment.
“I spoke to them for sure, but in the past a lot when I used to be there.
“Like I said I have zero interest to get involved in all the nonsense in my view.” Raikkonen said.
He then took a dig at the media when further quizzed about McLaren, saying that the media would anyways write whatever they believed in.
“You would like to know. I don’t think you ask our opinions for a lot of stuff you guys write, so it goes either way – you can put yes or no.
“You usually write what you decide yourselves is true.” he said.
McLaren want an experienced driver to replace Alonso, if he decides to leave. Raikkonen and Ricciardo have been identified as the potential replacements.
Raikkonen was with McLaren from 2002 to 2006 before he left for Ferrari.
But now with Ricciardo almost certain to stay with Red Bull, it seems like Raikkonen is the only available option.
What does the future hold for McLaren and Raikkonen?
