Is MS Dhoni retiring from International cricket?

After India lost the 3rd ODI against England at Leeds by 8 wickets with 33 balls remaining and along with it the ODI series 2-1, rumours are afloat that MS Dhoni has decided to retire from International cricket.

India had horrific day at office at Leeds in the 3rd ODI against England. They did not score freely and at the same time lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma quite early.

Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli then put up a good partnership. Although they were not going at a very quick clip, it still kept India in the game. Dhawan was looking great as always but this time as well he was not able to convert the start he got.

From there on it was always a downhill battle for India as the team managed to somehow reach 256 for 8. This was a below par score and India needed to come up with a great bowling performance to make a match out of it.

On the contrary, India bowled quite ordinarily as England got off to an explosive start. Jonny Bairstow dispatched a flurry of boundaries to leave the Indians tensed. Bhuvneshwar Kumar did not have a great start on his comeback as he went for 20 runs in his first 2 overs.

When the match ended with India losing by a comprehensive margin, MS Dhoni asked the umpire for the ball. This has given way to rumours that MSD is contemplating retirement from International cricket.

Although it sounds a bit too hollow at first, one cannot ignore the rumours given that one can never predict what is going through Dhoni’s mind when.

When he decided to retire from Test cricket, no one knew about his decision until he let the cat out of the bag himself. All we can do as Indian fans is to keep our fingers crossed and hope that the legend at least plays on till the 2019 World Cup.
