Bottas releases clarification about ‘calling a meeting’ over ‘wingman’ statement
Valtteri Bottas was caught in an awkward situation post his disastrous Hungarian GP, as his boss, Toto Wolff, referred to him as the perfect wingman for Lewis during the race.
The Sky reporter brought up this question in her interview with Bottas, informing him of the ‘label’ that Toto had put around Bottas’ neck.
Bottas clearly wasn’t amused with the comment and said that ‘wingman hurts’.
The reporter then further went onto quiz Bottas about if he was happy being wingman and playing second fiddle all through the season?
Bottas very calmly told her that he would ‘call a meeting’ and discuss with his team how they need to approach the next part of the season.
Here’s a video of that interview:
Natalie: “Your boss has just called you a sensational wingman.”
Bottas: “Wingman hurts.”

Bottas’ comments spread like wildfire on the Internet, especially the one where he spoke about ‘calling a meeting’ with his team about the ‘wingman’ situation.
“I have not called a meeting with the bosses for Toto saying I was the perfect wingman in this race. There is no need to. I was disapponted with my end result in the race and saw everything in a negative way for a moment. I know what he ment” Bottas tweeted.
“And he would have said the same about Lewis if he’d be in same situation and had a similar race. We are on equal terms and I trust the team 100% on that. All good. We’ll keep pushing! It’ll come.” he added.
