“Why These Women Big in San Antonio”: Charles Barkley Revisits Infamous Joke While Sampling Purple Churros with NBA on TNT Crew
Charles Barkley may just be the funniest man among all the pundits. While his NBA on TNT co-analyst Shaquille O’Neal is incredibly funny as well, Barkley has no match. The former Philadelphia 76ers legend, since his retirement, is all jokes every day.
It suits his personality and his takes. Barkley enjoys roasting teams, players, and cities. And instead of stopping him, fans usually can’t get enough of him. How would you when it’s so much fun?
Especially during the playoffs season, Chuck’s joking takes a whole different level. This time is no different. In fact, in the most recent episode of NBA on TNT, he revisited an infamous joke that has gotten him into trouble previously.
Charles Barkley took digs at the women of San Antonio
Charles Barkley and the women of San Antonio is a running NBA on TNT joke for the past few years. Chuck, on several editions, has made fun of the imagined San Antonio women. He calls them big, calls them overweight, but most of all, he credits the food of San Antonio for deciding the fate of the women of San Antonio.
In his latest appearance on NBA on TNT, Barkley revisited the joke after perhaps a year of not throwing it on national TV. Apparently, Sacramento Kings sent the crew a plate of purple churros. Immediately Chuck eyed them like he had been craving them all the while. But his will prevailed as he declined to take one after revealing he had already broken his fast.
When Ernie insisted and Chuck saw how Kenny enjoyed eating one, he finally relented and broke a small piece off of Kenny’s churro. Barkley gulped it down immediately and claimed he now understood why the women of San Antonio were so big.

Chuck once found himself in trouble after joking about San Antonio Women
Charles Barkley once found himself in some trouble after joking about the women of San Antonio. Reportedly, a writer wrote an article criticizing Chuck for his regular berating of the women of San Antonio.
So, someone high up in Turner Sports called Charles over and asked him to stop talking about San Antonio and especially about their women. Chuck revealed how the people of San Antonio really enjoyed the joke and there seemed to be no problem with the joke apart from that one article.
Chuck: “If you crack a joke the wrong way, they’re like, ‘Oh, no, no, no, you crossed the line.’ I mean, they won’t even let me talk about San Antonio anymore when I’m always talking about their big ole women down in San Antonio. They’re like, ‘Charles, we got one lady [who] wrote an article.’ “I’m like, ‘First of all, I didn’t call anybody personally fat in San Antonio; I was just joking around. … We’ve been having fun with this for probably 10–15 years. We go to San Antonio; the people are having a blast with it. The people in San Antonio had T-shirts made up.”
It seems Chuck is going to ignore the warnings going forward. He has already signed a 10-year, multi-million contract. What’s the worst that could happen over a San Antonio joke?
