“I’m Going To Taiwan If I Don’t Win a Ring With Kevin Durant”: Shaquille O’Neal Shares Chris Paul’s Viral Quote on His Plans to Play With Dwight Howard
Many of us thought the Phoenix Suns became the top contender for the championship when they traded for Kevin Durant mid-season. However, even Chris Paul is doubtful that happening.
Shaquille O’Neal recently put up a story from his official Instagram account where CP3 said he would have to join Dwight Howard in the Taiwanese League if he cannot win a championship with KD by his side.
“If I don’t win the ring with KD [Kevin Durant], I’m going to Taiwan with Dwight Howard,” read the story.
Did Chris Paul really say he would play in Taiwan if he could not win with Kevin Durant?
From what we could find with our digging, Paul has not said it as there is no source to confirm it, but just an image of Paul with the quote floating on the internet.
Pardon Shaq for sharing probable fake news. However, the fact remains. The greatness of Chris Paul on the all-time list completely depends on whether he wins a title with KD or not.
If they do not, he might never get as much love as the all-timers like Magic Johnson or Isiah Thomas. As John Stockton has already done, what the “Point God” is doing in a much better way.
CP3 will lose credentials for a top-5 point guard if he doesn’t win a title
Let’s look at who is he in competition with. Magic, Isiah, Jerry West, Oscar Robertson, Tiny Archibald, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Gary Payton, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, and a few others, not in any particular order.
Now, only Steve Nash has not won a championship in that group. How unfair would it be to rank Paul over any of those guys based on just position? It’s difficult to place him at even Top-10 let alone the top-5.
If we are talking about pure point guards, then he makes it to the top 10 but certainly not the five. Not unless he wins one championship at least.
