Despite Being Fierce Competitors, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso Share Same F1 Idol

Apart from being teammates at McLaren back in 2007, there isn’t much to connect Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. One’s a seven-time world champion, while the other’s a two-time. One is from Spain, the other is from England. However, there is something that connects the duo and that is the idol they followed while growing up.

Admittedly, Alonso has followed Ayrton Senna ever since he was a child. And how much Hamilton loves and respects Senna is known to all by now. If not anything else, the former Brazilian managed to get the two of the oldest drivers on the grid on the same boat.

The Spanish driver revealed this during a chit-chat with his former McLaren teammate and compatriot Carlos Sainz. As Sainz asked who was the Formula 1 driver he followed when he was a child, the 41-year-old said during their times together in Woking, “For me, it was Ayrton Senna.”

Alonso is one of the top talents in F1, and hence having him as the follower, as well as Hamilton, shows the impact the three-time world champion had in the sport back in the day. If not the best, the Brazilian was regarded as one of the best drivers to have graced the sport.

Alonso wants Hamilton to join him for retirement

The Aston Martin star has recently revealed that he would like to have the Silver Arrows ace beside him when they retire. Speaking to Daily Mail, the 41-year-old opened up on this.

Alonso asserted that it would be “great” if his old teammate joins him in retirement. The duo has been in the sport for over one and a half decades and are two of the oldest driver to be active.

However, there’s no such report or rumor that connects the Briton with the Spaniard to be on the same team. But if the 38-year-old decides to be alongside the Asturian, it’ll be a treat to watch for the F1 enthusiasts.

Fans want Alonso and Hamilton to battle it out once again

In a stunning turn of events, the F1 fans want the two heavyweights of the game to go on the battle against each other. But astonishingly, this time it’s for Taylor Swift! Yes, you read it right.

While the Mercedes star is a big fan of the pop star, Alonso was recently linked to dating the American sensation. Given, both the drivers are currently single, the fans have made their wishes clear on social media.

Now it’s on Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso to decide if they will end their career together, or will cross swords to win over Taylor Swift. It’ll be interesting to see which way things turn, but for now, the target is expected to be to stay ahead of one another in the F1 driver’s standings.
