Jofra Archer IPL 2023 Replacement: Has Chris Jordan Replaced His English Teammate at Mumbai Indians?
Mumbai Indians have signed England pacer Chris Jordan as a replacement player in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2023. However, it is still not clear as to whom Jordan has replaced. It is now confirmed that Jordan has replaced fellow England pacer Jofra Archer in the squad.
Archer was signed by Mumbai last year for INR 8 crore despite knowing that he won’t play a single IPL 2022 match. In fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, Archer was set to lead the bowling lineup this season but he has just played two out of their eight matches so far. In those two matches, he has scalped just one wicket at an economy rate of 9.37.
UPDATE: Archer has now been officially ruled out. He will return to England to continue his rehabilitation.
Jofra Archer IPL 2023 Replacement
Mumbai head coach Mark Boucher recently confirmed that Archer is available for selection for the imminent match against Rajasthan Royals. This statement makes it clear that Jordan isn’t a replacement for Archer. However, Boucher also said that Archer went to Belgium for minor surgery on his elbow.
There are no fresh injury concerns reported by the franchise as of now. While Stubbs has played all of a single game this season till now, Brevis continues to warm the bench. Talking about the pace department, Behrendorff, Jansen and Meredith are the other overseas pacers of the side apart from Archer.
The duo of Archer and Jordan are very close to each other in their personal life. It was Jordan only who asked Archer to move to England after his 18th birthday. Both of them are from Barbados only and subsequently played for Sussex in the English domestic circuit .
Chris Jordan IPL record
Jordan has a decent amount of IPL experience under his belt. He has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (2016), Sunrisers Hyderabad (2017-2018), Punjab Kings (2020-2021) and Chennai Super Kings (2022) and in the past.
In 28 IPL matches, Jordan has scalped 27 wickets at an economy of 9.32. It is clear that Jordan’s IPL record is not that great but he is famous for his bowling in death overs.
