“Magic Johnson Didn’t Change The Game”: Stephen Curry is the New GOAT Point Guard Over 5x Champ as Per Colin Cowherd
There are several things on the basketball court that Stephen Curry does better than any other point guard to ever play the game. Yet, somehow, he never gets enough support to be the GOAT at the point position.
But that might change now. The 2x MVP of the Golden State Warriors just had a game that would never be forgotten. In a Game 7 with almost everyone in his team struggling to get buckets, The Chef went for a 50-burger to send off the Kings and lead his team to yet another Playoff-series victory.
And of all the analysts in the sports media, the one who has always been critical of Curry whenever he got the slightest chance has accepted him to be the GOAT point guard.
Colin Cowherd believes Stephen Curry has replaced Magic Johnson as the GOAT point guard
On the latest drop of The Colin Cowherd Podcast on The Volume, FS1’s veteran analyst talked about his Top-5 all-time. In that, he always had Magic Johnson at point, Michael Jordan at 2, and then Larry Bird, LeBron James, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the front court.
Discussing how Curry’s latest 50-point heroics combined with last year’s Finals MVP, has given him enough to replace Johnson as the GOAT point guard, which he never thought would happen.
He also touched upon how Magic and LeBron “didn’t change the game”, but Curry has separated the game of basketball by pre/post 3-point era. Watch the whole bit here.
Is it still too early to replace Magic?
The man Curry is trying to replace was a 5x champion, 3x MVP, 3x Finals MVP (won one of it, as a rookie), 12x All-Star, and 9x All-NBA First Team selection. Steph has played longer than him and has not achieved as much in any of those columns.
If we consider Jordan the GOAT over LeBron for achieving more in less time, we cannot do Magic wrong like that. It has to wait until Curry is all said and done.
