Why Does Stephen Curry Wear One Sleeve? Warriors Star’s Reason for Wearing a Sleeve on the Left Shoulder?

Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors are in the Western Conference Semi-Finals yet again. After beating the Sacramento Kings in seven games, the Warriors are now matched up against LeBron James and the Lakers. Even though Game 1 went to the Lakers, the fans are confident that Steph and his arm sleeve can outshoot the 17x Champions.

Steph finished the 2022-23 regular season averaging 29.4 points, 6.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds in 56 games. In the Playoffs, the Chef has turned it up a notch yet again. In the eight games so far, he’s averaged 32.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

Steph suffered two injuries this season that kept him out for eleven games each. One of the biggest things we got from those injuries was a new Steph Curry look.

When did Steph Curry start wearing one sleeve?

In December, Stephen Curry suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder on December 14 at Indiana.

The injury kept him out for eleven games, but the Warriors dodged a major bullet. Steph did not need surgery, and could play the rest of the season as long as he took certain precautions. One of the changes was a whole new look.

It was a big change from what the people were used to. While some thought he was paying homage to the great Allen Iverson, Steph himself told us the actual cause about it a game or two after he started donning the new sleeves.

Why was Stephen Curry wearing the sleeve on his left shoulder?

For a superstar like Stephen Curry, even choosing an arm sleeve was a whole ordeal. He explained the process to us in January. Talking about the same, Steph explained that the sleeve gives his shoulder support and keeps it warm. He didn’t wear anything on his right shoulder as to not disrupt the natural motion of his offense.

“It gives [the shoulder] support and keeps it warm. It allows me to feel composed, in terms of everything, trying to strengthen my shoulder. Keep it right.”

“The fact that I don’t want anything on my right arm, for like, the flow and the rhythm [imitates shooting] of shooting the ball. We tried pretty much everything when I was going through my workouts, coming back and that was the one.”

“It looks wild but that was the one that felt the best in terms of giving my shoulder the right support and feel throughout the game.”

While Steph’s numbers did take a hit since he started wearing the shooting sleeve, it wasn’t exactly the sleeve’s fault. He suffered two injuries, one to his shoulder and one to his leg. However, despite all of the odds against him, Steph nearly had a 50-40-90 season, ending the year with a 49.3-42.7-91.5 shooting stats.
