Carlos Sainz on Verstappen blocking Red Bull move
Sainz on Verstappen blocking Red Bull move: The Spaniard feels that Verstappen would never do such a thing.
Carlos Sainz has secured a future for himself in Formula 1 and will be racing for McLaren from next season on, replacing his idol, Fernando Alonso.
Sainz was in contention for the Red Bull seat alongside Verstappen as well, thanks to Daniel Ricciardo making the switch to Renault.
However, initial reports had stated that Verstappen had vetoed a move for Sainz, as the duo had some tense moments during that 2015 season at Toro Rosso.
Red Bull did not quite want to have a tense atmosphere and thus had ruled out a move for Sainz.
But Sainz has rubbished those rumours, confirming that Verstappen and he shared a good relationship even after the duo separated from each other in 2016.
Sainz ruled out all rumours of Verstappen not wanting him at Red Bull, saying that Max would never do such a thing.
“I do not know where that comes from, because Max is one of the paddock drivers I have the best contact with,” Sainz said, as quoted by Formule1.nl.
“He would never do that.
“I can only be grateful to Red Bull for giving me the opportunity to reach Formula 1 and drive for different teams. The fact that I’m not in a Red Bull seat now does not mean that it will never happen.” he added.
Sainz is confident about the future with McLaren and feels that all the development happening on the back end will help the team reach the top once again.
“I think this is the right place for me at the right time,” he said.
“The team is being rebuilt and everything is focused on getting back to the front.
“I have a deal for two years, but the intention is to stay there longer and to achieve successes together.” he added.
